How Are You Using Video
By Steve Hewitt As we send out our October issue, I am please with the great start we have had in our first few months of publishing Christian Video Magazine (CVMag). We have had some great articles, featuring fantastic ministries that help churches provide video for ministry. And, we have been sharing the background of some of those that help produce videos and are available on sites such as SermonSpice, for churches to download for their Bible study and worship services. However, something is missing!

OurChurchVideo.com Your Source for Using Video on Your Website!
By OurChurchVideo While attending the National Association of Church Business Administrators earlier this year, I ran across Eric Halverson and OurChurchVideos.com. Of course, since we were just staring Christian Video Magazine (CVMag) at the time, I was interested in what he had to offer. While visiting with Eric I discovered his passion to help churches use video on their website. He had some exciting ideas on how to accomplish this goal as well as a burden to help churches and ministries. Not only am I seeking to introduce him and his ministry to you in this interview, but I have asked him to write two additional articles that will run in our next two issues, sharing his experiences on creating informal videos for use in ministry, as well as using some very inexpensive equipment that he recommends to his clients to help them get the job done.

Circumstantial Style
By Stewart H. Redwine Earlier this year an aspiring Christian filmmaker said to me, “Christian’s have never led in the arts.” I responded, “Have you heard of the Renaissance?” If my friend thinks Botticelli, Donatello, Giotto, Michelangelo and Titian are brands of Italian pasta or Ninja Turtles, he’s not alone. The Christian creative community is seriously under-educated on art history, especially Christian art history. This ignorance has led to a lack of confident inventiveness and innovation on the part of Christian artists resulting in art that is an unsatisfactory copy of mainstream entertainment.

Sound Advice
By Gregory Fish Some of us who make videos for churches never had the luxury of going to film school or studying in any formal program. The desire is always to create a finished product that is pleasing to the eye. This "professionalism" is the goal, but not always the result. I'll be the first to admit that most of what I can offer in the way of advice comes from errors I've made in my own videos. The fact that a creation is less than perfect, though, does not mean it cannot minister to someone's soul. I'm humbled at the fact that many pastors have used my videos in their services when I know what imperfections they contain. I know what I would do differently if I could pull a mulligan. I don't let that bog me down. I learn something valuable from each video that I create. I don't have a team around me. Many of the videos I make are ones that I can do as the lone actor, director, director of photography, producer, and editor. This is obviously a challenge, but not impossible.

Lord, Save Us from Your Followers
By Benjamin Venegas It's raining outside: the kind of gentle sprinkling that makes you long to curl up with your favorite blanket (or cat) and watch an old classic and read a mind-numbing paperback. Perhaps the weather could sense precisely what I'd be doing at this moment on a dreary Sunday afternoon. Except, I'm allergic to cats, the coffee-shop armchair is harder than the stale biscotti in the display case, and the book I'm reading is only available in hardcover. Regardless, my index finger is hooked between pages 142 and 143 of my newest read: Lord, Save Us From Your Followers by Dan Merchant. Seated between two elderly, grey-haired book-worms, at a place where those too unsocial to go out to lunch read to themselves, I gaze intently through the tall, glass window of Border's bookstore watching the passersby socialize underneath the overhang of the shops outside. Fortunately, I'm here to see a movie.

Reflect Truth
By Steve Hewitt Interviewing Timothy Stewart What is the inspiration behind Radiance Creative Communications
Hebrews 1:1-3.
“In the past God spoke to our forefathers through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom he made the universe. The Son is the radiance of God's glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word.”

Design One Media Group
By Steve Hewitt interviewing Design One Media Group Could you share with us how or why you got started creating videos?
We started out using video as a tool to help missionaries tell their story and produced several promotional videos for missionaries we are connected with. From there we started using our video skills in our local church to assist with worship services and to promote different ministries within our church. We documented the entire building process of our new facility and produced VBS, Awana and yearly review videos. One of the strongest motivations for our work is a desire to assist those who are visual learners to be more connected with the worship service and for all believers to retain more of the message of God’s Word. We want our viewers to come away with a sense of just how alive the Bible really is and give them another way to understand and remember it.

Flickering Mind
By Steve Hewitt interviewing Aaron Randerson How did you get started
Well, that is actually a long story but I will give you the condensed version of it. I have been involved with production my whole life. My background really started in live theatre production as on-stage talent. However, I always had an interest in the technical side of things as well. I found myself working with the production staff on many occasions for live events, concerts and tours. Through time and opportunity I was able to work with a lot of major Christian artists and events but never really jumped much into video; although, I had always found it interesting. One day we needed a video for a church service and I thought I would give it a try, only to discover this was the perfect marriage of “artist” and “techie” I had been looking for.
