How Do You Video Tape Your Worship Service?
By Steve Hewitt

Last month I shared with you my conviction that our church needed to start video recording our worship services. I heard from many of you, sharing that you had the same desire. However, just as many of you stated that the problem wasn’t in the desire, but in the “how to”. How does a church go about recording the video, and making it available on their church’s website? What are the advantages of streaming it live, and how do you go about making THAT happen?

Just Have Fun With It
By Gregory Fish

Many of us in Christian Video ministry in churches across the country don't have formal training in all of the areas that we work in. Much of our learning comes "on the job" and through reading of publications (such as CVmag). I'm reminded of my kids when they start a new sport – soccer for instance. I know that they are not going to be like the great Pelé. They are just starting out. It's ridiculous to make such an assumption! So what do we tell them? "Just go on out there and HAVE FUN WITH IT." And they do...most of the time.

With Easter less than a month away, it is worth thinking about Jesus’ sacrifice on a dark Friday 2000 years ago. Few recent Hollywood movies have focused on that world-changing event, except Mel Gibson’s The Passion. But some illustrate powerfully the act of self-sacrifice and shed light on Jesus’ ultimate act. The Boy in the Striped Pajamas, a 2008 Holocaust movie, is one of them.

Reflections on Get Smart
By Mark Carroll

Ah, vintage Smart…Maxwell Smart. It was my favorite TV comedy series as a kid, and it ran from 1965-1970. The original TV show was created by Buck Henry and Mel Brooks, who said, “It's an insane combination of James Bond and Mel Brooks comedy." The 138 episodes can still be seen around the world in syndication, although I would prefer revisiting them on DVD (which has been on my Christmas list for the past three years…and counting). The series won two Golden Globes and was nominated for an astounding 21 Emmy Awards – winning seven.

Intelligent Design: Creating Better On-Screen Graphics
By Jay Delp

In the beginning of media ministry (circa. 1991) there was PowerPoint. And the slides were without form and void of any purpose, creativity or impact. “Yellowness” was upon the face of the fonts and dark “Blueness” covered the expanse of their backgrounds. Times New Roman and a myriad of other non-video-friendly fonts inhabited the presentations and multiplied amidst the blue expanse in the slides which the media ministry-volunteer had created and made. Distracting, chaotic, and not-so-special, special effects roamed to and fro across the screens as worship was interrupted by would-be worship leaders. And the people saw the slides and they were not good. God saw them too, but saying nothing, simply wept. And on the 1st day of the week PowerPoint lost its power to make any point. II Presentiah 14:7
